Terms of Service

These terms cover myescali.org. Using the site means reading its figures, holding them against your own kitchen or bathroom, and following its links. They are written for that use and no other.

What this site is

This is the Escali catalog: kitchen and food scales, kitchen thermometers, digital timers, bathroom and body scales, and the lab balances and platform scales from the professional bench, with the capacity, the resolution and the probe length printed where you can read them before you decide. It is a reference, not a checkout. Our retail partner takes the payment, ships the parcel and handles any return, and the contract of sale is formed there, on their terms.

Food temperatures

A thermometer only helps if the target is right. The safe internal temperatures we print are the federal food-safety figures: 165F for all poultry, 160F for ground meats, 145F with a three-minute rest for whole cuts of beef, pork, lamb and veal, and 145F for fish. Colour is not a substitute for any of them: the federal guidance is blunt that a burger can look done well before it reaches 160F, and that the only way to know is to measure at the thickest point. Where a dish carries people at higher risk -- pregnant women, small children, older eaters -- the margin belongs on the safe side of those numbers, and the source pages behind every figure are listed, with the dates we read them, on our updates page.

Body-composition readings

A body-composition scale estimates fat, water and muscle by passing a small, imperceptible electrical current through the body. Two consequences follow, and neither is small print for us. First: the standing clinical advice is that people with a pacemaker or another implanted cardiac device should not use bioelectrical impedance, because of the current it applies -- a plain weight reading on an ordinary scale carries no such caveat. Second: the percentages are estimates, and the published research finds they move with hydration alone, so they are for tracking your own trend, not for diagnosing anything. None of the figures on this site is medical advice; a scale shows you a number, and what the number should be is a conversation for you and a clinician, not a product page.

Both notes are written out of public guidance rather than out of our own testing. Every source behind them is named, with the date it was read, on our updates page.

Figures and photographs

Capacities, resolutions, probe lengths and pack counts come from our product data. Prices move; the figure at the till is the one that counts, and where the two disagree, the till wins. Photographs show the thing being sold rather than a styled substitute, and a frame that argues with its caption is pulled rather than captioned around.
